Everest Three High Passes Trek is one of the most challenging trekks in Nepal. The passes include Renjo La (5360m), Cho La (5368m) and Kongma La (5330m).These passes are not on the Everest Base Camp Trek. The trail goes through the passes via Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp, including the astounding sceneries of the snowy peaks, glaciers, lakes and the Sherpa cultural heritages. You will also have the opportunity to climb three peaks: Gokyo Ri (5,360m) Kala Pattar (5,540m), and Chukkung Ri (5,550m), a lesser-known summit, tucked beneath the Lhotse-Nuptse wall. This is a perfect trek for adventurers and thrill-seekers. It is a test of both fitness and technical trekking skills.
Beginning the Everest Three Passes Trek from Lukla, the trail passes through Sherpa villages and farming fields above the Dudh Koshi River. Once you cross the suspension bridge, you reach to Phakding and from Jorsalle, Sagarmatha National Park begins. Heading to Namche Bazaar, you can enjoy the stunning panoramas of the Everest peaks and the surrounding landscape. Hiking around the Khumjung village, you can explore the lifestyle of the Sherpa people. Sherpas are well-known around the world for inhabiting this mountainous region. The route goes via Thame and crosses the first Himalayan pass- Renjo La (5360m) to the spectacular Gokyo Valley. For the acclimatization, you hike to the Gokyo Ri and explore more charming views of the lakes, glaciers, icefalls and the eye-catching white peaks- Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Makalu, Cho Oyu and others. After, the trail leads to Cho La Pass (5330m), regarded more technical among the three passes. The trail is steep up and down along with slippery. You may need to use the climbing equipments. Via Everest Base Camp, you trek down to Lobuche and finally cross the highest pass- Khongma La (5535m). Then you trek back down to Lukla.
