The Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek goes through the historical trail that was used by the pioneer Everest climbers- Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary.Jiri, the gateway of this trek, is also known as a little paradise of Nepal. Most trekkers take the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and begin the Everest Base Camp Trek from there. However, if you would like a bit more of a challenge, or more time to acclimate to the altitude, the Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek is the way to go. The trip begins with an 8-9 hour drive from Kathmandu to Jiri. The first days of the trail are sparsely populated by other trekkers. We pass through Buddhist villages, having the opportunity to explore the culture of these areas. In Junbesi, we will visit Thupten Chholing, a massive Buddhist monastery with several hundred nuns and monks. After passing more monasteries, mani walls, and religious monuments, we will reach Namche Bazaar, the trading and tourism hub of the region. From here, we will climb continuously up to Gorakshep, where several 6,000+ meter peaks can be seen. We then trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapattar, where we enjoy the spectacular scenery. The views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Ama Dablam, Lobuche peak, Kangtega, Thamserku and others are incredible. From here, we will head back down the trail and take the Lukla flight back to Kathmandu.
As is the case more most treks in the area, Spring and Autumn are the best seasons for the Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking package. The trek requires good fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Ascent Holidays arranges the trek with complete management, including Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and TIMS. Please, feel free to contact us for the detailed information.
