Shivapuri Nagarkot Trek

The Shivapuri Nagarkot Trek is a delightful, short excursion just outside the Kathmandu Valley.  It is 25km away from the valley and it gives a real look into real rural village life in Nepal.  We hike into Shivapuri National Park and are exposed to the awe-inspiring beauty found in this transitional zone between subtropical and temperate climates.  The flora and fauna here vary as we trek from 2729m to 1440m.  We may see animals such as the sloth bear, muntjac, leopard, wild boar, and many more.  Many different bird species can be found in the area, bringing bird watches from all over the world to the area.  Throughout the trek, we will pass through dense pine and rhododendron forests.  A main highlight of the trek is reaching the top of Shivapuri Hill, where we see spectacular mountain views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Ganesh Himal Range, Mt. Langtang Range, Mt. Dorje Lapka, Mt. Shishapangma, Mt. Gaurishanker, and others. From here, we ascend another hill of Nagarkot via Chisopani.  Upon arrival, we are able to see even more mountain views, as well as a priceless sunrise the following morning.  Then, we trek to Dhulikhel the following morning, where we stay for the night.  The following morning, we drive back to Kathmandu.
